Pre-Apprentice Lineman

This position begins active training in line work, with that training beginning in ground duties. Perform personally the following activities related to this position:

  1. Develops the specialized technical skills necessary for constructing, operating, and maintaining a reliable electric system.
  1. Become familiar with the equipment, hardware, and other tools necessary for performing tasks; maintain and repair as directed.
  1. Becomes familiar with and remains current on 4-County safety practices and procedures, CPR, first aid, and rescue procedures; displays knowledge of safe working practices outlined in 4-County's Safety Manual through daily work practices.
  1. Provides linemen with tools and equipment as they direct.
  1. Maintains job location in a safe and neat condition; responsible for keeping tools and work equipment in orderly arrangement on the truck when not in use.
  1. Assists Equipment Operator with installing overhead and underground apparatus and assists with anchors and hanging of aerial devices.
  1. Assists in loading material for the job; checks previously used materials.
  1. Learns how to frame and align poles according to RUS specifications and installs equipment and hardware.
  1. Under close supervision, becomes proficient in climbing and performing duties on de-energized poles.
  1. Operates automotive equipment when assigned; complies with all traffic laws, safety rules, regulations, and safe practices while operating the vehicle given to them; should always show utmost concern for the safety of the car, its occupants, and its load.
  1. Trims trees and clears right-of-way whenever necessary.
  1. Under close supervision, patrols and checks lines and performs troubleshooting activities.
  1. Promotes good consumer/member relations by avoiding crop damage, breaking fences, opening gates, etc.
  1. Must be available as required to assist in handling outages.
  1. Performs other work as assigned by the supervisor or directed by other specified crew members.
  1. Displays a positive attitude to develop and maintain a high level of morale among employees of the Association.
