Key Responsibilities
The Concrete Finisher is responsible for placing, finishing, and repairing concrete on heavy civil construction projects. This role requires skill, precision, and attention to detail to ensure high-quality concrete surfaces and structures that meet project specifications and industry standards.
- Set forms to meet grade specifications for curbs, sidewalks, slabs, drainage structures, and other concrete work.
- Place and spread concrete using hand tools (shovels, rakes) and power tools (vibrators, screeds).
- Smooth, level, and finish concrete using floats, trowels, edgers, jointers, and finishing machines.
- Apply curing compounds and ensure proper curing and protection of finished surfaces.
- Install reinforcement (rebar, mesh) according to plans and specifications.
- Check grades, slopes, and depth using levels, lasers, or measuring tools.
- Repair and patch existing concrete as needed.
- Operate concrete finishing equipment safely (walk-behind trowels, riding trowels, screeds).
- Assist with concrete demolition, forming, and cleanup.
- Follow Phillips Contracting safety policies and OSHA requirements at all times.
- Communicate effectively with team members, operators, and supervisors to ensure quality and productivity.
- Perform other related duties as needed to support project goals.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of concrete finishing experience preferred (curbs, gutters, sidewalks, slabs, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge of concrete properties, finishing techniques, and timing.
- Ability to read and follow grade stakes, basic plans, or foreman instructions.
- Skill in using concrete hand tools and finishing equipment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 50+ lbs, bending, kneeling, and working in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Reliable transportation to job sites.
- Commitment to safety and quality.
