Key Responsibilities
The General Construction Laborer supports field operations by performing a wide range of physical labor tasks on construction sites. This role is essential to maintaining safe, efficient jobsite operations and assisting skilled trades and equipment operators in completing civil construction projects.
- Perform general labor tasks including site cleanup, debris removal, and material handling.
- Assist with grading, excavation, pipe installation, concrete work, paving, and other civil construction activities.
- Operate small tools and equipment such as plate compactors, demo saws, power drills, and jackhammers (after proper training).
- Maintain jobsite safety by following Phillips Contracting safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Set up and take down barricades, signage, silt fence, and traffic control measures.
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment.
- Support equipment operators by spotting, signaling, and ensuring proper clearances.
- Assist with measuring, marking, and basic layout when needed.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Report any unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment issues to the Foreman immediately.
- Other tasks as assigned to support project needs.
Qualifications
- Previous construction experience preferred
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting 50+ lbs, bending, walking long distances, and working in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn new skills in civil construction.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation to job sites.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to safety.
Candidates must be able to pass the following:

- MVR Screening (if applicable)
